Tokens of Kindness - A Win-Win Game
My friend, David Chance has been an entrepreneur all his life. Not long ago, he realized that he'd always dreamed too small. As a long-time student of Personal Development, it finally occurred to him that this (dreaming small) was an issue that needed to be addressed. This realization motivated him to act on a quote he keeps by his bedside, "An idea is a dime a dozen. Put into action, is PRICELESS!"
David said, "I decided to take action. I saw that if I didn't try, I'd never know how it would've turned out."
And so he did. He came up with an idea, which was inspired by the movie "Pay It Forward", that would entail people playing a game of sorts, to create a large and ever-growing awareness of KINDNESS. Here's how it works:
The game 'pieces' are tokens, which can be customized with your name or business or foundation. Any time a good deed or act of kindness is witnessed, you hand out one of the tokens and ask that the person go to the website, register the token and share their story of how they came to receive it. then, when they witness an act of kindness, they'd pass the token on to the next person and have them do the same thing. This then creates a 'map' of where the tokens travel. It also creates a daily, moment by moment awareness of both doing a good deed and watching for others who do as well. The idea is that the more we look for acts of kindness, the more we see them, do them ourselves and inspire others to keep the 'game' going. In other words, planting seeds to watch the blooms of kindness spread! What could be better than that?!
David's vision is for the game to spread far and wide, from church groups to neighborhoods to large corporations. Hoping to inspire people to make new friends, help with fundraising, and promoting a focus on acts of kindness is his overall mission. He believes that the more we focus on kindness, the more kindness will spread. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how effective this game will be! As the saying goes, "a single act of kindness can last a lifetime". Who knows how many lives may be affected by playing this fabulous 'game'?
David's initial vision was to create something that would have a large impact, one person at a time. A game where everyone wins. Something that people would want to 'play' for the rest of their lives. He wanted to take action on an idea, and in so doing, found that the best part of all was that he was actually helping people. On the token are the words "Changing your world one choice at a time".David truly believes we CAN change the world, but it begins with OUR OWN world, right in our own backyard. So it goes with kindness. One person at a time, little by little, and we change our focus, our attitude, our communities. And it doesn't stop there. His dream no w is to one day (soon!) go to his site and see all the inspiring stories, see how this game of awareness has changed lives, and see it reach to the ends of the planet. This, he says, will be his greatest reward.
"I have asked myself many times, 'what is the meaning of my life?' And while I'm sure there are as many different answers as there are people on the planet, for me it's about being happy, enjoying what I do on a day-to-day basis, not wasting time living a stagnant life, creating happiness moment by moment. These are the things that matter most to me."
